La sua poetica legata alla realtà spesso svela verità scomode, ma di rara bellezza. Troviamo il suo sguardo di ogni singolo frame: un occhio curioso che accompagna lo spettatore in un mondo sospeso ma estremamente vivo e ruvido. Agnes Varda ha raccontato la storia di tante donne, sovvertendo gli stereotipi di genere, ha raccontato di paesaggi umani, urbani e naturali creando nuove narrazioni, ha mescolato linguaggi, distrutto confini, generato domande ed aperto orizzonti. C’è una sincerità nello sguardo dell’autrice che accompagna ogni suo film e la potenza della sua anima è il suo messaggio. 

ENG Her poetics anchored in reality often reveals uncomfortable truths, but of rare beauty. We find her gaze in each frame: a curious eye that accompanies the viewer through a suspended but extremely alive and rough world. Agnes Varda told the story of many women, subverting gender stereotypes, she told of human, urban and natural landscapes creating new narratives, in doing so she mixed languages, destroyed borders, generated questions and opened horizons. There is a certain candor in the author’s gaze that accompanies each of her films and the strength of her soul is her message.

Agnes Varda è stata una delle prime donne fotografe e registe della storia, tuttavia parleremmo di autrice, grazie al suo punto di vista, con un approccio documentaristico è definita una delle esponenti della nouvelle vague[1].

[1] È una corrente cinematografica che aveva come scopo principale raccontare il vero; quindi, veniva eliminato ogni sorta di artificio, che potesse compromettere al realtà. Utilizzando luci naturali sia del giorno che della notte.

ENG Agnes Varda was one of the first female photographers and directors in history, but due to her special point of view we would speak of her as an author, and with her documentary approach she is defined as one of the representatives of the Nouvelle vague.

Nell’allestimento della mostra a “les recontres d’arles”, traspare questo punto di vista, ma soprattutto troviamo fotografie, appunti, elementi che fanno parte di tutto l’immaginario di Agnes Varda. L’allestimento comincia con alcune cartoline che lei stessa collezionava, fino ad ammirare i suoi studi sulle inquadrature, grazie a degli storyboard che poi fedelissimamente a riproposto nei suoi film.

Il suo “modo di guardare” sottolinea la sua capacità di dare attenzione a dettagli, piccoli elementi della quotidianità che poi sono fondamentali per l’intera narrazione.

ENG In the exhibition at “Les Recontres d’Arles”, this point of view shines through, but above all we find photos, notes, elements that are part of Agnes Varda’s imagination. The installation begins with some postcards that she herself collected and then it catches your fascination with the studies she made on her shots, thanks also to the storyboards, the same ones she then faithfully reproduced in her films. Her “way of looking” highlights her ability to pay attention to details, to those small elements of everyday life which become fundamental for her narrative.
